Summary: This study combines a large clinical database with blood biomarkers, a biorepository, and gene sequencing for use in ALS research. The study is also developing a model of ALS progression that can be used in clinical trial development, outcomes research, and personal planning.

Principal Investigator: David Walk, M.D.
Funding Agency: FDA

Multimodal Longitudinal Imaging of Brain and Cervical Cord in ALS

Summary: This study will apply advanced MRI techniques to identify structural changes in the brain and spinal cord in ALS over time. This will be applicable in clinical trials. The study involves three clinical centers in the US

Principal Investigator: Pramod Pisharady, Ph.D.

Funding Agencies: FDA, Minnesota Office of Higher Education

Protective Factors for Spinal Motor Neurons

Summary: This study will identify differences between motor neurons developed from stem cells from people living with PLS and ALS, to identify features of PLS that prevent progression to motor neurons in the spinal cord.

Principal Investigator: Marija Cvetanovic, Ph.D.

Funding Agency: Minnesota Office of Higher Education

Biorepository to Support ALS Research in Minnesota

Summary: This study will support collection of blood, spinal fluid, skin cells, spinal cord, and brain tissue for ALS research.

Principal Investigators: Liam Chen, M.D., Danni Li, Ph.D., David Walk, M.D.
